How this estimate is calculated

Estimate only: plates wasted per month × an assumed $9 average plate cost × 12 months × 30% assumed waste reduction. Monthly food spend is used only to show that figure as a share of your budget, not in the savings calculation itself. Individual results vary by menu, sales history, and how consistently order guides are followed.

Common questions

The things people ask first.

How much sales history do I need before the forecast is useful?

Three months gives a usable forecast of level and direction. A full year is what unlocks seasonality, because a repeating annual pattern cannot be measured until the calendar has repeated once. Below three months, treat any projection as a placeholder.

Does StocksSense work with my POS?

A sales CSV export works from any POS, on any plan — that is the path most accounts use. Catalog sync with a supported POS is available when enabled for your account. If your system can export a sales report, StocksSense can read it.

How does the forecasting actually work?

Holt-Winters exponential smoothing on your own monthly sales history: it separates the current level, the trend, and each month's seasonal effect, then projects them forward. With less than a year of history it falls back to a simpler trend-only model rather than inventing a seasonal pattern. There is no LLM guessing at your numbers.

How much will this save me?

StocksSense does not publish measured customer results, and will not claim a figure it cannot evidence. The on-site ROI calculator is an illustrative model built from assumptions you can see and change — not an observed average. What the product does is order closer to expected demand than a flat average does; what that is worth depends on your menu and your prices.

Do I need a credit card to try it?

No. The Free plan tracks up to 5 products, needs no card, and is never charged. Paid plans start with a trial — 7 days on weekly billing, 14 days on monthly or annual — and those do require a card and charge automatically when the trial ends unless you cancel first.

What can a demand forecast not tell me?

Anything that is not in your sales history: a road closure, a festival, a competitor opening, a menu change that renames an item, or the reason behind a slow month. Use the forecast as a well-informed default and override it with what you know and it does not.
